Tibet's Dalai Lama to visit Brazil

BRASILIA, Feb 8 (AFP) - The Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, will visit Brazil for four days starting April 4, Brazil's Foreign Ministry announced Monday.

It will be his second visit to Brazil, the first being his visit in 1992 to attend the World Environmental Conference held in Rio de Janeiro.

The Tibetan leader, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, will travel to Brasilia and Curitiba and will meet with members of a variety of religious faiths practiced in Brazil.

He also will speak at a series of conferences on human rights and environmental protection.

The Dalai Lama has lived in exile in India since 1959, when an anti-China uprising in Tibet was crushed by the Chinese government.

Beijing often has reacted to his travels abroad with accusations that he is seeking support to mobilize separatist groups in Tibet.
